Market trends shifted on October 20, 2026, as U.S. tech stocks recovered from a sharp sell-off. The strength of this rebound will depend on this week’s earnings reports from Meta Platforms, Tesla, and SpaceX. Analysts from Barclays, Fairlead Strategies, and Wells Fargo are closely monitoring the results, as they could influence market sentiment regarding AI investments and overall tech profitability.

Huo Xing Finance reports: On Monday, U.S. tech stocks rebounded after a sharp sell-off, but whether the market can truly stabilize depends on whether this week’s earnings reports from major tech companies can demonstrate that the profit potential behind the AI investment boom remains solid. Earnings from major tech firms such as Meta Platforms and Tesla this week will serve as a critical test, with SpaceX also planning to release its results after the market close on Tuesday. Ajay Rajadhyaksha, Chairman of Global Research at Barclays, stated that this week’s corporate earnings reports are crucial. Given that recent stock price movements remain fragile, Barclays has adjusted its stance on risk assets to neutral. Katie Stockton, founder of Fairlead Strategies, also noted that the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices need to hold key support levels this week; otherwise, the market may further confirm a breakdown. However, she believes that widespread short-term oversold conditions are currently providing temporary support to the market. Ron Albarahi, Chief Investment Officer at LNW, said that companies seen as beneficiaries of AI investment must prove that actual earnings can meet the growth expectations already priced into their stock valuations. He believes the current market risk may not be a valuation bubble akin to the dot-com era, but rather a bubble in earnings expectations themselves. Samir Samana, Head of Global Equities and Real Assets at Wells Fargo Investment Institute, views the recent pullback in AI-related trading as a “reality check,” rather than a complete collapse of the rally. Nevertheless, he still expects related stocks to face continued pressure over the coming days and weeks. Samana noted that Wells Fargo previously downgraded its outlook for the technology sector due to overly optimistic market expectations. While recent selling has absorbed some of this optimism, the correction may not yet be over and could persist until around the U.S. midterm elections. He also pointed out that the politicization of AI and data center construction issues may continue to influence market sentiment.
