National U.S. operator Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs today announced the launch of over 400 machines across the U.S., all charging a flat 5% fee for purchases. The company states that this network size makes it one of the largest Bitcoin ATM operators in the U.S. at launch.
These machines are installed in convenience stores, gas stations, and shopping malls in Florida, California, Arizona, Texas, and other states. Customers can purchase Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and dollar-pegged stablecoins Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC) with cash. Fees and exchange rates are displayed on the screen before the customer confirms the purchase, and funds are sent directly to the customer’s own digital wallet—the company does not hold these funds. Starting today, first-time customers can also complete identity verification online in advance, reducing their first in-person transaction time at the machine to approximately two minutes.
Quincy Mathis, Operations Manager at Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs, said: “Bitcoin ATMs have become one of the most expensive ways to buy anything, with costs often hidden in the exchange rate rather than displayed as a separate fee. We’re launching with over 400 machines and a transparent fee structure—we show the fee on the screen before the customer even puts in their first dollar. The name isn’t subtle; that’s by design.”
What does a $1,000 difference in purchase fees mean?
For example, with a $1,000 cash purchase, the differences between operators are clear:
- With a 5% fee, the customer pays $50 and receives $950 worth of cryptocurrency.
- Based on the industry-standard rate of 12% to 15%, customers pay $120 to $150 to receive cryptocurrency worth $850 to $880.
- With a 20% fee, the customer pays $200 and receives $800 worth of cryptocurrency.
The comparison above reflects publicly disclosed percentage fees, excluding exchange rate impacts, and is based on the reported fee ranges for Bitcoin ATMs in the United States. Some operators also add a markup to the exchange rate; Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs displays both the fee and the exchange rate on the screen before each transaction.
Lower-cost cross-border remittance option
The company says an increasing number of its transactions involve stablecoins—digital tokens pegged 1:1 to the U.S. dollar—used by customers to send money to relatives overseas and by small businesses to pay overseas suppliers and contractors. Customers deposit cash into the machine, and recipients receive dollar-pegged funds in their wallets within minutes, with the option to hold or convert them into local currency. No bank account is required to send funds.
For customers remitting $1,000 per month, the annual fee is approximately $600 at a 5% rate, $1,440 to $1,800 at typical Bitcoin ATM fees, and $2,400 at a 20% rate.
Mathis said: "Families sending remittances home are the most price-sensitive customers in this market, yet they have been paying the highest fees. A 5% fee for a stablecoin transfer that arrives within minutes is a completely different proposition."
Limits, verification methods, and purchase process
Purchase limits are tiered by verification level. Customers verified only with a phone number can purchase up to $2,000 per day; customers verified with a government-issued ID and tax identification number can purchase up to $50,000 per day.
One purchase consists of four steps:
- Verification can be completed online in advance or on the machine.
- Select a cryptocurrency and scan the QR code of your digital wallet.
- Insert cash. As banknotes are inserted, the real-time cumulative amount will be displayed on the screen.
- Review the fees and exchange rate, then confirm. Funds will arrive in your wallet within minutes.
With the new online pre-registration, customers who have already completed verification only need to enter their phone number at the machine. Pre-registration and machine location features are available at lowestfeebitcoinatms.com.
Consumer Protection and Compliance
Lowest Fee Bitcoin ATMs states that the company is registered with the U.S. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) as a money services business, and its machines operate in compliance with federal and state regulations. Customer data is encrypted. Since cryptocurrency transactions cannot be reversed, the company warns consumers: if anyone requests payment to a government agency, bank, utility company, employer, or technical support representative via a Bitcoin ATM, treat it as a scam and leave immediately.
Availability
The lowest-fee Bitcoin ATMs are currently operational at over 400 locations, with plans for phased expansion in the future. Customers can locate the nearest machine on the company’s website. New customers can enter the promo code LOWEST at the machine to receive a 20% discount on transaction fees.
