BlockBeats report: On July 24, institutional crypto trading platform LMAX Group is collaborating with Morgan Stanley and KBW, the investment banking arm of Stifel, to evaluate strategic options, including a sale, SPAC merger, or listing in the U.S. or Europe, with a potential valuation of up to $5 billion. According to sources familiar with the matter, a Nasdaq listing is currently the preferred option, but the company is not rushing the process, as its core foreign exchange business can hedge against the current downturn in the crypto market.
LMAX, headquartered in London and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), provides an institutional trading venue for foreign exchange and digital assets to banks, brokers, hedge funds, and asset management firms. In 2021, private equity firm J.C. Flowers acquired a 30% stake in LMAX for $300 million, valuing the company at approximately $1 billion. This January, Ripple made a strategic investment of $150 million in LMAX to drive institutional adoption of the RLUSD stablecoin. (CoinDesk)
