Lido has launched an ETH update enabling direct ETH staking on Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism, as reported by ChainCatcher on October 15. The integration leverages Chainlink’s CCIP to allow users to receive wstETH directly on their respective Layer 2 networks without manually bridging ETH. ETH is converted to wstETH via liquidity pools on the same Layer 2, while staking continues to occur on the Ethereum mainnet. Lido automatically bridges and stakes the ETH, then returns wstETH to replenish liquidity. Users receive a fixed wstETH balance that reflects staking rewards. The feature is now available across four Layer 2s, with Linea added in October 2025. Transaction fees remain on the Layer 2, and cross-chain costs are covered by contract balances. This development underscores Lido’s ongoing expansion into cross-chain staking solutions.

ChainCatcher reports that Lido has announced the integration of direct ETH staking functionality for four Layer 2 networks—Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism—into its official staking interface, with the feature unveiled on October 15. This process is powered by Chainlink’s cross-chain interoperability protocol, CCIP, enabling users to obtain wstETH directly on their originating network without manually bridging ETH to Ethereum and back. Lido states that users’ ETH will be exchanged for wstETH via dedicated liquidity pools on the same L2; Chainlink price feeds reflect Lido protocol’s exchange rate, not exchange market prices. The underlying staking still occurs on Ethereum mainnet: ETH deposited on the L2 is automatically bridged to Ethereum and staked via Lido, after which wstETH is returned to replenish the local liquidity pool. Users receive wstETH, a wrapped version of stETH, whose balance remains fixed while its value reflects staking rewards. This feature integrates existing cross-chain infrastructure directly into Lido’s native interface. Lido previously introduced similar channels for Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism in October 2024, with third-party frontends including XSwap, OpenOcean, and Interport; Linea followed in October 2025. Regarding fees, users still pay L2 transaction gas fees, while cross-chain costs are covered by a separately funded contract balance, not from user deposits.
