Legal AI startup Harvey has closed a $550 million project funding round, pushing its valuation to $15.5 billion. Diffusion and Lightspeed co-led the round. This follows a $200 million raise in March at an $11 billion valuation and an $8 billion valuation in December 2024. Harvey has secured at least eight priced funding rounds since 2023, including five in 2025 alone. The startup recently launched its first proprietary model, Harvey Tenet, built on the open-source Kimi K3 model and trained on legal data. It also encourages clients to train open-source models to reduce dependence on closed-source providers. The funding reflects continued interest in vertical AI with clear business applications, aligning with broader trends in AI and crypto news.
CoinDesk reports:

Legal AI startup Harvey disclosed on Wednesday that it has completed a new $550 million funding round, bringing its latest valuation to $15.5 billion. Just months after its previous round in March at a $11 billion valuation, capital continues to drive up the company’s valuation.

Valuation nearly doubled within nine months

This round of funding is co-led by Diffusion and Lightspeed Venture Partners. Harvey previously announced a $2 billion funding round in March, at which time the company was valued at $11 billion; prior to that, in December last year, the company’s valuation was $8 billion following a funding round.

Based on company disclosures and PitchBook data, Harvey has completed at least eight priced funding rounds since 2023, including five since 2025. If certain extension rounds are counted separately, this round can be regarded as approaching a Series F stage.

  • This round of funding: $550 million
  • Latest valuation: $15.5 billion
  • Total funding raised: Over $1.55 billion

Recently launched the first in-house developed model.

Shortly before this new funding arrived, Harvey released its first internal model, Harvey Tenet. The model is built on the open-source weight model Kimi K3 and was fine-tuned on legal data, with involvement from the inference service provider Fireworks.

Harvey is also driving client adoption and fine-tuning their own open-source weight models. This demonstrates that the legal industry, while accelerating the use of AI tools, is also seeking to reduce its reliance on proprietary frontier model providers like OpenAI and Anthropic.

Legal AI funding momentum continues

From the pace of financing and product initiatives, the capital market continues to increase investment in vertical industry AI companies, particularly enterprise platforms with well-defined customer use cases. Harvey’s latest funding round reflects growing interest in the legal AI sector, driven by advancements in model capabilities, industry-specific data, and commercialization success.

Additional information: TechCrunch noted that Harvey did not publicly disclose the official round name for this funding round; external databases typically categorize it based on valuation and timeline.
