BlockBeats report, August 9: Hardware wallet provider Ledger has issued a security advisory regarding the BIP-110 fork, stating that BIP-110 is a Bitcoin soft fork proposal without built-in replay protection. If an independent chain emerges, BTC holders may receive an equivalent amount of assets on the new chain; however, both chains may initially accept the same signed transactions.
If users attempt to transfer or sell assets on the BIP-110 chain, the transactions may be "replayed" onto the Bitcoin mainchain, resulting in the corresponding BTC being transferred out as well. Ledger states that its devices can technically sign such transactions, but recommends not claiming or interacting with BIP-110 forked coins until a replay protection mechanism is implemented.
