On September 9, 2026, LayerZero announced on-chain news of Akita, a lattice-based post-quantum polynomial commitment scheme. Built on MetaEra, Akita delivers quantum-resistant security for zero-knowledge systems. Deployed on Jolt zkVM, it reduces proof file sizes by 2–8 times, increases Jolt’s speed by 2–3 times, and cuts memory usage in half. This development follows rising concerns about security risks posed by advances in quantum computing.

ME News reports that on September 9 (UTC+8), LayerZero announced the launch of Akita, a lattice-based post-quantum polynomial commitment scheme (PCS) ready for production environments, designed to provide quantum-resistant security for zero-knowledge proof systems. Polynomial commitment schemes are core components of zero-knowledge proof systems, responsible for compressing and packaging computational processes into a compact “proof file” that enables rapid verification of correctness without re-executing the full computation; smaller file sizes reduce on-chain storage and transmission costs and time. Akita is now open-source, making it available to any proof system seeking post-quantum security. Its first major deployment is in Jolt, the ZK proof system developed by LayerZero in collaboration with a16z crypto for the Zero blockchain’s underlying infrastructure. LayerZero data shows that traditional hash-based post-quantum proof schemes typically produce proof files larger than 200 KB, whereas Akita generates proof files between 65 KB and 80 KB—a reduction of 2x to 8x in size. Additionally, Akita improves Jolt’s proof generation speed by 2x to 3x, reduces memory usage by approximately 2x, and supports sublinear memory overhead. (Source: Foresight News)
