On November 4, LayerZero announced the completion of an on-chain news pilot with 21X AG, an EU-licensed DLT transaction and settlement platform. The test, conducted on a private instance of LayerZero’s Zero blockchain, evaluated 21X’s on-chain central limit order book for tokenized U.S. equities. The system processed up to 10,000 orders per second, outperforming a baseline L2 EVM network by 45 times. Settlement occurred on-chain, eliminating the need for off-chain matching. The project represents a potential upgrade to cross-chain trading infrastructure.

ME News reports that on November 4 (UTC+8), according to the LayerZero blog, LayerZero has completed a joint technical pilot with 21X AG. 21X AG holds a DLT Trading and Settlement System (DLT TSS) license under the EU’s DLT Pilot Regime, regulated by Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), and operates trading and settlement of tokenized securities. The pilot ran for one month on a private, permissioned instance of LayerZero’s blockchain, Zero, implementing 21X AG’s fully on-chain Central Limit Order Book (CLOB) using tokenized U.S. equities as test assets. It achieved up to 10,000 order matches per second, with further potential for improvement—up to 45 times faster than the baseline L2 EVM network—and executed matching and settlement within a single on-chain transaction, eliminating the need for off-chain matching.
Zero is a high-performance blockchain launched by LayerZero in February this year in collaboration with Citadel Securities, DTCC, ARK Invest, and ICE, fully EVM-compatible. The private, permissioned instance used in this pilot allows institutions to control network participants and data visibility while maintaining compatibility with the broader multi-chain ecosystem.
