Latham & Watkins LLP and Harvey today announced a collaboration to develop an AI-powered fund formation solution. Through this design partnership, Latham is bringing together its market-leading investment funds practice team with Harvey’s product and engineering teams to advance the technology supporting fund document processing workflows.
This collaboration focuses on key stages of the fund formation process, including LPAs, side letters, subscription documents, and memoranda of advice, with the goal of building relevant AI capabilities. Latham states that by directly incorporating its expertise in fund formation, market knowledge, and practitioner insights into the development process, this partnership aims to streamline the process and enable lawyers to devote more time to the strategic, business-critical issues that matter most to their clients and investors.
“Setting up a fund requires lawyers to manage a vast array of details while始终保持 focusing on the commercial priorities of sponsors and investors,” said Matthew Chase, Global Head of Latham’s Investment Funds Practice. “We are excited to collaborate with Harvey, combining their engineering expertise with Latham’s broad perspective from its top-tier global platform, and turning our market knowledge and insights into AI tools that support our clients.”
“The best legal technology is built on a deep understanding of how experienced lawyers work and what they need,” said Winston Weinberg, CEO and co-founder of Harvey. “Latham has enabled our product and engineering teams to directly understand the needs of lawyers handling some of the most complex fund formation matters, helping us build capabilities that reflect the complexity and reality of their work.”
Amber Banks, Latham’s M&A and private equity partner and member of the AI Strategy Committee, said: “In private equity and the broader transaction landscape, we see opportunities to apply AI in a targeted manner that complements our lawyers’ experience and judgment, enhancing how we serve our clients. This partnership puts this vision into practice by directly incorporating our lawyers’ perspectives into the development of capabilities tailored to complex, real-world legal work.”
Rene Mendoza, Chief Information Officer at Latham, said: “Our technology strategy is built on the work of our lawyers and the outcomes our clients expect. We are excited to continue collaborating with Harvey to develop advanced AI capabilities that unlock our lawyers’ collective expertise in new ways. Through our partnership with Harvey, we are equipping our internal teams with powerful AI tools while also bringing innovative AI solutions into our business to support our commitment to delivering exceptional client service.”
