The Korea Exchange will expand trading activity by launching after-hours trading for over 2,600 stocks on September 14. The session will operate daily from 16:00 to 20:00, with market makers introduced to enhance liquidity. Only limit orders will be permitted, and certain stocks will be excluded. This initiative increases the NXT platform’s stock coverage from 800 to over 2,600, potentially boosting trading volume.

Huo Xing Finance reports that on September 9, the Korea Exchange will launch after-hours trading starting September 14, with trading hours from 16:00 to 20:00 each trading day, covering the vast majority of listed stocks on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets—up to 2,651 securities. This after-hours trading will introduce a market maker system to provide quotes and liquidity support for stocks with low liquidity, marking the first time market makers are implemented in Korea’s after-hours stock market. To enhance investor protection, market orders will be prohibited in after-hours trading; only limit orders, best-limit orders, and best-market-limit orders will be permitted. Additionally, stocks subject to investment warnings, high-risk alerts, management-related issues, suspensions, or those not traded on the main market on the same day will be excluded from after-hours trading. Currently, Korea’s alternative trading platform NXT offers trading in approximately 800 stocks; with the launch of the Korea Exchange’s after-hours trading, investors will see a significant expansion in the range of tradable stocks.
