Kalshi Sues Netflix Over Alleged Defamation in Prediction Market Documentary Trailer

Odaily Planet Daily reports that prediction market operator Kalshi sent a cease-and-desist letter to Netflix on July 24, accusing its new documentary trailer, “Instadocs: The Prediction Games,” of defamation, and demanding the trailer be removed and a public correction issued before the film’s premiere on July 26. Kalshi stated that the trailer used a fabricated transaction receipt suggesting it permits sports betting in Nevada and violates a state court order. The company noted that the receipt in the footage bears a date of May 16, 2025, and displays a “crop” label on the phone interface—neither of which align with its platform’s design. Netflix denied fabricating the scene, asserting that the transaction occurred in May 2025, prior to Nevada’s restrictions taking effect, and that the scene was filmed at a private event in Las Vegas. Nevada regulators have required Kalshi to implement geofencing by August 12, or face a daily fine of $120,000.
