Japan's central bank is set to begin phasing out its ETF holdings as early as January 2026, according to a Bloomberg report on December 15. The move, decided during the September monetary policy meeting, will take place over several decades to avoid market shocks. As of September, the holdings were valued at 83 trillion yen ($53.4 billion), with a book value of 37.1 trillion yen. The disposal aligns with broader efforts in Countering the Financing of Terrorism and follows the recent bitcoin ETF approval in the U.S.
