IT Home, October 12 — According to technology media CNBC today, Intel CEO Chen Liwu and Broadcom CEO Chen Fuyang warned that although demand for computing infrastructure continues to outstrip supply, funding may become the biggest bottleneck for AI development.
Chen Fuyang stated that, as the entire industry races to build infrastructure, financing is more likely than semiconductors, storage, or power to become the main barrier to AI expansion.
IT Home learned from the original report that Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger also expressed similar concerns, noting that AI costs are continuously rising and that it remains uncertain whether companies will receive sufficient returns after making massive investments in AI.
The statements by the two executives highlight a new challenge facing the AI industry: to meet the surging demand for computing power, major AI companies have invested heavily in building data centers, acquiring advanced chips, and upgrading power infrastructure.
Despite concerns about financing, both executives remain optimistic about short-term demand for AI computing infrastructure. Chen Fuyang said, “Market demand for computing infrastructure exceeds our supply capacity.” He added that this supply-demand imbalance could persist until 2029 and even extend into 2030.
Chen Liwu also stated that the industry is unlikely to experience a significant slowdown over the next two to three years. He noted that the growing adoption of AI applications and the increasing demand for computing power will continue to drive industry growth.
