According to Coinotag, the Indian government has reversed its initial mandate requiring the pre-installation of the Sanchar Saathi cybersecurity app on new mobile devices. Following public and political backlash over privacy concerns, officials confirmed on December 3 that the app is now optional, and users can delete it at any time. The app, launched to combat online fraud and track lost or stolen devices, has recorded 14 million downloads and traced 2.6 million devices since its launch. Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia emphasized that the app does not monitor calls, location, or microphone data, and user choice is fully respected.
