Immunefi Report: 207 hacks in H1 2026 cost the crypto industry $972M

According to ChainCatcher, citing The Block, Immunefi’s report shows that crypto projects suffered approximately $972 million in losses from 207 hacking incidents in the first half of 2026. Although the number of attacks reached a record high, total losses remained below $1 billion and were less than half of the losses recorded in the first half of 2025. The report notes that DeFi-related attack losses have dropped 74% from the 2022 peak of $2.62 billion to approximately $680.3 million, with the median loss per incident declining by 75% during the same period. Immunefi attributes this decline to sustained security coverage, bug bounty programs, audit competitions, and an increasing number of researchers identifying vulnerabilities before exploitation. Additionally, the primary risk sources are shifting from isolated smart contract vulnerabilities toward infrastructure failures, private key exposures, cross-chain configuration errors, and weak privilege access points.
