The token’s name references the story of the laptop that Hunter Biden left at a repair shop seven years ago. In October 2020, the tabloid New York Post published information from the laptop just weeks before the presidential election. Files stored on the laptop sparked a scandal—emails, personal photos, and records of foreign business contacts that suggested possible corrupt ties between Hunter Biden and his father.
The son of the former president confirmed the token launch by publishing the ticker LAPTOP, the date September 9, and a clip from a Fox News segment about his laptop.

— Hunter Biden (@HunterBiden) September 7, 2026The total token supply will be 1 billion units, according to The Wall Street Journal. The project’s founders, including Hunter Biden himself, will reserve 30% of the tokens for themselves: the coins will be locked for six months and then gradually released over two years. 20% of the tokens are planned to be distributed through an airdrop in two phases. The developers promised to freely distribute memecoins to investors who lost money on investments in President Donald Trump’s TRUMP token, subscribers to Biden’s Substack platform, and participants on the mailing list of journalist Andrew Callaghan, who previously interviewed Hunter Biden for his YouTube channel, Channel 5.
An additional 20% of LAPTOP tokens are reserved for liquidity provision, exchange listings, and legal expenses. The creators also pledge to burn an additional 30% upon achieving certain milestones—for example, if Bitcoin reaches a new all-time high, if the Democratic Party wins the 2028 elections, or if LAPTOP’s market capitalization exceeds that of the memecoin TRUMP. Currently, TRUMP is trading at $2.25 with a market capitalization of $616 million.
Recently, unknown parties created the Trump Digital GOLD token on the Solana blockchain under the brand name Real Trump Coins, which produces collectible silver and gold medallions featuring Trump. Just hours after launch, the token plummeted in value. The company stated that it did not issue such a token.
