According to The Wall Street Journal, Hunter Biden plans to launch a meme coin named LAPTOP on Base on September 9. Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 network launched by Coinbase. The project combines U.S. political controversy with on-chain token issuance and directly targets TRUMP token holders in its distribution plan.
Total supply of 1 billion tokens
The total supply of LAPTOP is planned to be 1 billion tokens. According to reports, the founding team will hold 30% of these tokens, which will be locked for six months initially, followed by a two-year vesting schedule.
An additional 20% of the tokens will be allocated for charitable donations, liquidity, exchange partner and market maker fees, as well as accounting and legal expenses related to the foundation’s operations.
Two-round airdrop targeting TRUMP loss-making wallets
The project has also reserved 20% of the tokens for two airdrops, targeting wallet addresses that incurred losses on the Trump-related meme coin, TRUMP. This arrangement is the most prominent aspect of the project, clearly intended to position itself in direct contrast to the TRUMP token.
The report states that entities associated with the Trump Group control 80% of the TRUMP token supply, with this portion also subject to a multi-year vesting schedule. Both projects retain a high percentage of tokens allocated to team holdings.
Set 30 burn trigger conditions
The LAPTOP team also plans to implement a burn mechanism that can destroy up to 30% of the total supply. There are 30 triggering conditions, with examples including Bitcoin reaching a new all-time high or the Democratic Party winning the 2028 U.S. presidential election.
If some of the preset conditions ultimately do not occur, the corresponding tokens will be redirected for charitable purposes rather than remaining in the project.
The name of this token refers to the "laptop" incident that sparked political controversy in the United States in 2019. The report also states that Hunter Biden himself will be involved in the founding team, rather than merely authorizing the use of his name.
