Hugging Face CEO Urges Acceleration of AI Safety Efforts Amid Rising Cyber Threats

If we do these three things well, AI will not merely introduce new cybersecurity challenges—it will fundamentally and meaningfully strengthen cybersecurity. Recently, following the incident involving the infiltration of Hugging Face by an OpenAI model, a U.S. congressman introduced a bipartisan bill, the “AI Emergency Shutdown Act,” requiring developers of advanced or frontier AI systems to retain the technical capability to throttle, pause, or fully shut down their systems; and authorizing the Secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), after consultation with the Secretary of Commerce and the Director of National Intelligence, to order intervention if a model becomes uncontrollable or poses a catastrophic risk.
