According to Coinspeaker, a new report from the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) warns that 6.51 million Bitcoin (BTC), valued at $188 billion, are at risk of being compromised by quantum computers within the next five years. The report highlights that 1.72 million BTC in early Pay-to-Public-Key (P2PK) addresses are particularly vulnerable, including an estimated 1.1 million BTC attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto. The Presidio Bitcoin Quantum Summit in July 2025 concluded that quantum computers capable of breaking Bitcoin’s encryption could emerge within 5-10 years. Experts also noted that no consensus has been reached on how to handle the vulnerable funds, with competing quantum-resistant signature proposals like SPHINCS+ and BIP360 failing to gain unified support.
