Harmony Investigates Unauthorized Minting of 4 Billion ONE Tokens

Odaily Planet Daily reports that Harmony Protocol stated its team is collaborating with relevant exchanges to attempt to block and freeze the funds involved in this incident, while developing a remediation solution and evaluating rollback options. Prior on-chain data analysis indicated that Harmony appeared to have been attacked, with the attacker exploiting a blank block vulnerability to unauthorized mint approximately 40 billion ONE tokens, accounting for roughly 26% of the current supply. Approximately 2.8 billion ONE were subsequently transferred to exchanges, triggering market selling pressure and causing the price of ONE to decline. Analysis suggests the attacker exploited a vulnerability in the supply verification mechanism, preventing the totalSupply interface from promptly reflecting the actual increase in token supply and concealing the inflationary impact. Harmony stated it will provide updates on the incident as more information becomes available; the event remains under investigation.
