According to Huoxing Finance, on August 17, Harmony Protocol announced a rollback plan for the anomalous token minting event, aiming to roll back Shard 0 to block 92,730,034 and Shard 1 to block 94,978,278, both corresponding to UTC time 23:25:37 on August 11, 2026. Validators will use replacement databases from these respective blocks and will regenerate blocks at heights 92,730,035 and 94,978,279. Harmony stated that the first confirmed forged mint occurred at Shard 0 block 92,730,036, hence the prior block was selected as a safety buffer. After evaluating alternatives such as targeted token burns, blacklisting, selective transaction replay, token migration, and direct database rollback, the team determined that these options risked affecting unrelated funds or causing chain state inconsistencies; thus, a fixed rollback window was chosen. Harmony disclosed that a single forged minting wallet attempted 534 transfers of 50 billion ONE each within 106 seconds, with 477 transactions succeeding, totaling 2.385 trillion ONE transferred. The team noted that tracking of funds has covered over 99.9% of the forged ONE pathways; however, “traceability to a wallet or cluster” does not imply identification of specific individuals or guarantee that all associated funds can be safely destroyed. Additionally, Harmony has completed full archiving of Shard 0 from block 92,730,035 to 92,871,662, encompassing 141,628 consecutive blocks, 109,126 regular transactions, and 315 staking transactions. The team stated that all blocks and regular transactions after the rollback checkpoint will be discarded, and they are currently collaborating with exchanges, cross-chain bridges, and law enforcement to assess impacts and develop solutions. Harmony confirmed that an independent third-party security firm has reviewed the incident and verified the discovery of the forged minting and primary fund flows. Validators must execute the rollback according to the official recovery procedure.
