Due to a complete overhaul of the underlying framework, individual and free users must manually migrate before June 18, 2026, after which the legacy tool will cease responding to requests. This service discontinuation primarily affects individuals and independent developers. Starting June 18, accounts using Google AI Pro, Ultra, or the free personal version of Gemini Code Assist will no longer be able to invoke the legacy CLI. The Gemini Code Assist plugin for GitHub organizations will also stop accepting new installations on the same day and will fully cut off API responses within the following weeks. Google has now published migration documentation (antigravity.google/docs/gcli-migration) for reference. Enterprise channels are unaffected: organizations that have purchased Gemini Code Assist licenses can continue using the legacy CLI to maintain stability for existing workflows, or immediately integrate the new Antigravity CLI into their projects for early access. Individual or independent developers wishing to retain access to the legacy tool must manually switch to a paid API key. The newly released Antigravity CLI is written in Go and offers faster response times. It fully incorporates the legacy Agent Skills, Hooks, and Subagents mechanisms but has fundamentally shifted to an asynchronous background processing model. Users can now concurrently initiate large-scale refactoring or multi-source technical research without locking their current session.
