On-chain news from Chainthink reveals that on April 2, 2026, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis and team member Logan Kilpatrick posted cryptic hints on X about Gemma 4. An anonymous model named 'significant-otter' on the LMSYS Chatbot Arena also claimed to be the new version. The model passed basic tests but is not a reasoning model. Google has not confirmed the release. Crypto news circles are closely monitoring for updates.

ChainThink reports that on April 2, according to monitoring by 1M AI News, Demis Hassabis, CEO of Google DeepMind, posted four diamond emojis on X. Shortly before, Logan Kilpatrick, a member of Google’s technical team and head of Google AI Studio and the Gemini API, posted a message containing only the word “Gemma.” With the two posts occurring close in time, this activity has been widely interpreted as a signal that Google’s open-source model Gemma 4 is about to be released.

Prior indications of the leak had already emerged: an anonymous model identified as "significant-otter" appeared on LMSYS Chatbot Arena and, when pressed by users about its identity, claimed, "I am Gemma 4, a large language model developed by Google DeepMind." Users on the Reddit community r/LocalLLaMA reported that the model responds quickly, is not a reasoning-focused model, and has passed common baseline capability tests used by the community.

Google has not yet officially announced Gemma 4. The previous open-source model, Gemma 3, is part of Google’s lightweight model family designed for the open-source community, supporting execution on a single GPU or TPU with capabilities in multilingual, multimodal, and long-context processing, and has earned a strong reputation within the open-source community.
