According to Beating Monitor, Google has launched Science One, a system that enables AI to conduct scientific research autonomously while maintaining complete evidence trails. It can search for papers, design experiments, run tests, and write manuscripts. Current AI research systems often fabricate citations, and the methods described in papers may not match the actual code. Science One links every conclusion to its source, code, and experimental records—if the evidence doesn’t align, the statement is modified or deleted. Google deployed five systems using the same Gemini 3.1 Pro model to produce 75 papers across five tasks. Science One generated 337 citations, all of which are authentic; results from 12 reproducible experiments matched exactly; and 14 out of 15 papers were consistent with the actual code. Other systems had a fabricated citation rate as high as 20.9%.
