IT Home, October 21: Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated today that the company is reallocating some of its computing power from its cloud business to advanced AI research to fully support the development of cutting-edge AI.

For Google, developing cutting-edge AI is costly and requires substantial computing resources and chips that could otherwise be sold at high prices through its cloud business. Pichai stated that investing resources in cutting-edge AI research is “fundamental” to Google.
The CEO also noted that customers seeking to lock in computing power for 2027 are facing significant challenges, due to factors such as the two- to three-year timeline required for data centers to move from decision to operation, and a surge in demand for agent-based tasks. He explained, “Our cloud business can afford to forego short-term revenue at any given moment because we are making computational trade-offs to support cutting-edge AI development.”
