ChainCatcher report: Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed that Google is deepening its collaboration with MediaTek on the TPU v9, developing an upgraded chip codenamed Triggerfish. MediaTek has reportedly secured the exclusive order for this high-value project. The new chip is positioned as a v9 variant with enhanced inference capabilities, primarily targeting AI agents and reinforcement learning, aiming to address CPU and memory bottlenecks during computation. In terms of technical specifications, Triggerfish features 2 to 3 times more SRAM capacity than the base model (Humufish), adds a dedicated analog chip for reinforcement learning and AI agent collaboration, and upgrades memory from HBM4 to HBM4E. Kuo expects that while the base model maintains an shipment target of 4 to 5 million units, Google has placed an additional order of 1 to 2 million units for Triggerfish. The chip is scheduled to begin production by the end of 2027 and enter mass production in 2028, with a unit price approximately 30% higher than the base model, potentially becoming a new growth driver for MediaTek in 2028.
