For an org that has hoisted 11 LEC trophies, the idea of G2 sweating out a Worlds qualification might seem unusual. But the road to this point has been bumpier than their trophy case suggests.
A season of highs and lows
G2’s 2026 campaign started about as well as any team could hope. They claimed the LEC Spring Split championship, adding yet another title to what is already the most decorated resume in European League of Legends history.
The momentum carried into the Mid-Season Invitational, where G2 delivered one of the year’s most memorable series: a 3-1 takedown of T1. G2 ultimately finished MSI 2026 in fourth place after reaching the semifinals.
Then came the Esports World Cup, where G2 exited in the group stage, finishing in the 9th-12th range after dropping a clean 0-2 to Dplus KIA.
To make matters more complicated, coach Dylan Falco departed the organization in early September 2026. Falco was the architect behind those 11 LEC trophies, and losing your head coach right before the most important stretch of the competitive calendar is suboptimal timing.

The Esports World Cup exit remains a relevant data point. Getting swept by Dplus KIA suggested that G2’s ceiling against top international competition may be lower than their MSI semifinal run indicated. The coaching departure of Dylan Falco adds a further variable that is difficult to quantify heading into the playoffs.
