Odaily Planet Daily reports that Aurélien Roussel, co-founder and CEO of Frgmnt, said stablecoins are transitioning from DeFi tools to becoming essential infrastructure for accessing the U.S. dollar, and their next phase of adoption will depend on making blockchain technology nearly invisible to end users.
He noted that the 2023 bank failures demonstrated that fiat-collateralized stablecoins, although on-chain assets, still rely on the off-chain traditional banking system and cannot fully eliminate counterparty risk from banks.
Roussel stated that Tether maintains dominance in non-Western global trade due to its liquidity, exchange support, merchant acceptance, and distribution network; local regulatory frameworks such as MiCA are driving issuers to build localized compliance infrastructure.
He believes that Layer 2 networks will reduce stablecoin transaction costs to less than one cent, shifting issuer competition toward distribution, liquidity, and financial services, and expanding stablecoins from payment tools into programmable, yield-generating capital. CBDCs and private stablecoins are more likely to coexist. (Bitcoin.com News)
