CoinMarketCap reports:

Frax makes internet history: first crypto company to submit an ICANN top-level domain application.

.frax will connect a globally recognized internet domain with on-chain ownership, payments, and AI-native business activities.

Las Vegas, October 7 /PRNewswire/ — Frax today became the first cryptocurrency company whose application for a top-level domain has been publicly disclosed by ICANN; .frax has been officially released as part of the 2026 New gTLD Program. If ultimately authorized, .frax will become a globally recognized internet top-level domain, similar to .com or .org.

Frax plans to establish .frax as the first end-to-end top-level domain, designed to connect the traditional internet with on-chain economics. Users will be able to own and manage .frax domains through Frax’s Frax Name Service (FNS) on the Fraxtal blockchain, while these domains will also be resolvable through the global Domain Name System. FNS registrations will feed into the Frax Burn Engine, permanently burning FRAX, and as domain usage grows, enable the ecosystem’s native digital goods to capture value.

Frax founder Sam Kazemian said: “Cryptographic naming systems make internet identities ownable. ICANN domains make them globally accessible. .frax brings these two worlds together. Our goal is to create the first internet namespace where ownership exists on-chain, but domains work everywhere. From there, domains can evolve into programmable financial endpoints for individuals, businesses, applications, and AI agents.”

The program also extends to the financial network built by Frax around frxUSD and FraxNet. FraxNet connects financial institutions, fintech companies, and enterprises through a shared digital currency and payment network, expanding the reach and utility of frxUSD with each new participant.

Frax also plans to explore proxy and machine payment functionalities for .frax domains, including support for emerging standards such as x402. This could enable websites, applications, and autonomous software agents to programmatically identify counterparties, access services, and initiate stablecoin payments.

The .frax application was submitted with support from MarkMonitor, an ICANN-accredited enterprise domain registrar.
