Figma unveiled new tools at its Config event in India to improve AI agent design compliance. The company launched Figma Specs, a Markdown editor for design language, and expanded canvas agent access. Code layers are now in public beta, enabling design-to-code conversion. Figma’s MCP now supports 20+ tools, including Open Code and Grok Bot. The platform serves 40% of India’s top 100 BSE-listed firms. New token listings and AI + crypto news continue to shape the industry.

Figma announced new tools at the company's first Config event in India to help its own and third-party AI agents better follow brand design rules. Figma debuted Figma Specs, a Markdown editor that lets users define their design language. Specs documents can serve as references for teams and agents designing in Figma. Specs can exist as standalone files or within the canvas. Users can reference canvas elements and embed FigJam diagrams, code layers and designs.

Teams can bring design libraries, code libraries and guidelines into a centralized system to manage design context. Agents can refer to the centralized system to follow rules. Figma made its agent on canvas available to a wider user base in the past week. Figma is providing tools to steer AI toward more predictable outcomes because AI is non-deterministic.

Figma is making code layers available in public beta at the India event this week so more users can test the feature. Code layers adds coding to designs on canvas to create more interactive prototypes. Figma announced code layers in private beta in June. Users can ask the agent to turn a design into code or change part of the code to revise a prototype.

Figma chief design officer Loredana Crisan said Figma is where software teams decide what to build and ship. Crisan said AI has made the ability to build more accessible. Crisan said 17 times more lines of code are being produced today than in the past. Crisan said releases have increased only 1.3 times. Crisan said much of that code is built to discover and design a product rather than necessarily to ship.

Figma said its MCP now supports over 20 new tools, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot and India's AI startup Sarvam. Figma is integrating the open-source headless content management system Payload with Figma Make to generate dynamic websites and manage content directly. Figma acquired Payload last year. Figma said Payload's downloads increased sixfold in the last 12 months.

Figma opened its first office in India late last year with sales, partnership, go-to-market and product support functions. Figma said India is the company's biggest market by users outside the United States. Figma said the platform works with 40% of India's top 100 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
