According to the FBI director, the operation was rolled out under the leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump. Patel said that as part of the investigation, law enforcement:
- seized more than $15 billion in cryptocurrencies
- dismantled dozens of scam compounds
- arrested hundreds of people
- freed thousands of human trafficking victims
- shut down more than 500 fraudulent investment sites
- took down millions of scam-linked accounts
- warned more than 10,000 Americans before they lost funds, which the FBI estimates helped prevent losses of more than $500 million.
“We are no longer just going after scammers. We are dismantling the networks that profit from them,” Patel said.
At the same time, the FBI director did not provide additional details on the methodology used to value the seized crypto assets or the time period over which the stated results were achieved.
Statement sparked active debate
Patel’s post drew a mixed reaction from users.
Some commenters praised the results of the operation. In particular, user RRzec17 thanked the FBI director for fighting criminal schemes and stressed that behind the statistics are families who have been harmed.
Others urged the bureau to shift its priorities. User dems_arepedos said the FBI should primarily focus on combating domestic threats to the country.
At the same time, criticism was also directed at the US administration. User HulloXworld accused the authorities of hypocrisy, while johanna_ju8572 said her stepfather fell victim to financial fraud and lost a significant amount of money due to an investment scheme.
As a reminder, in May 2026, the FBI reported the largest crypto asset seizure in history — $8 billion — as part of Operation Blackout. At the time, the central figure in the investigation was Chen Zhi — CEO of Cambodia-based Prince Holding Group. More details are available in the article.
