Market news from Beijing shows the EU is pushing for trade concessions to cut its €1 billion daily deficit with China. Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic will meet with Commerce Minister Wang Wentao to demand better market access for European firms and tighter controls on Chinese exports in sectors like machinery and vehicles. Bitcoin market news remains separate, but global trade shifts often influence crypto trends. The EU also wants Beijing to ease restrictions on rare earths and address surging Chinese EV imports. Progress is expected ahead of the October 15-16 summit.

The European Union will push China for concrete trade concessions during high-level talks in Beijing this week. According to a Reuters report, Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic will meet Commerce Minister Wang Wentao as concerns grow over Europe’s widening goods deficit. The shortfall now exceeds €1 billion daily, increasing pressure on European industries facing stronger Chinese competition.

EU Targets Market Access and Export Controls

Significantly, Brussels wants Beijing to improve market access for European companies and address broader trade imbalances. However, EU officials believe greater market access alone cannot solve the problem.

Consequently, the European Commission also wants China to limit exports in several fast-growing product categories. Machinery, textiles, chemicals, and basic metals have recorded particularly concerning increases.

Additionally, Sefcovic will raise Chinese restrictions on rare earths and other critical minerals. These materials remain essential for European manufacturing and clean-energy supply chains.

Chinese Vehicle Imports Draw Scrutiny

Moreover, rapidly increasing vehicle shipments have intensified concerns across Brussels. EU imports of Chinese plug-in hybrids jumped 86% through September.

Battery electric vehicle imports also increased 40%, despite existing EU tariffs on China-made models. Meanwhile, plug-in hybrid prices declined about 20%.

Hence, Brussels wants measurable progress before EU leaders meet on October 15 and 16. Trade relations with China will feature prominently during that summit.
