At ETHShanghai 2026, under the theme "The Renaissance of Ethereum," we aim to revisit the past decade of Ethereum and the values that remain worth preserving—openness, collaboration, freedom, autonomy, and new ways of human connection.
Ethereum has never been just a blockchain—it has been redefining how people connect, collaborate, and create. And over the past few years, we’ve seen a group of people actively putting these ideas into practice:
Digital nomad.
Borderless, remote collaboration, individual sovereignty—the lifestyle pursued by digital nomads resonates perfectly with the original spirit of Ethereum. They may live in Shanghai, Hangzhou, or Chengdu, or in a rural village, on an island, or in a city on the other side of the world; they are no longer defined by fixed offices or geographic locations in their work and life, and are continuously exploring new community relationships, collaboration methods, and ways of living.
We believe that the digital nomad community is becoming an important real-world experiment for Ethereum's ethos.
ETHShanghai 2026: Discovering Real-World Practices in Action
This year at ETHShanghai, we hope to invite 2–5 digital nomad communities from different cities and regions to attend in person.
We don't want to hear too many abstract concepts, nor do we need to package the community as a "Web3 project".
We’d rather hear real stories:
Who are you?
What is currently being done?
How does the community collaborate and operate?
What has succeeded, and what still remains challenging?
What would you like to explore next?
We hope these real-world examples will show more Ethereum developers, researchers, public goods builders, and community participants that:
- What’s happening in the digital nomad community today;
- How do co-living, co-learning, rural development, and youth self-organization operate;
- How governance, contribution records, open collaboration, and Web3/DAO principles come to life in real communities;
- What common issues are communities in different cities and regions facing;
- What new connections can be created between the digital nomad community and the Ethereum ecosystem?
We are looking for such a community
We want to move beyond grand abstract concepts and see the real stories unfolding on the ground. If you and your community are actively practicing any of the following, join us:
- Offline co-living and co-learning: youth self-organized hubs, digital nomad centers, distributed collaboration nodes;
- Rural development and local integration: Empowering rural areas and traditional communities through digital technologies and new governance mechanisms;
- Organization and governance experiment: Attempting to integrate DAO principles, open collaboration, contribution records, or on-chain identities into the daily life of real communities;
- Action Team: Demonstrates tangible阶段性 progress, with the lead or core members available to attend in person in Shanghai and eager to share authentic, firsthand experiences.
Whether you’re part of a youth-led collective, a co-living community, a rural development community, a shared learning space, or a digital nomad network exploring new ways of collaboration—if you’re seeking answers to how people can live, work, and create together in new social relationships, we’d love to hear from you. We’re eager to connect with communities from around the world.
You might be in a city we haven’t heard of yet, or running a small but fascinating experiment.
This time, we want to bring these stories to Shanghai.

Selected communities will receive:
- 5-Minute Community Showcase: Share community practices live at ETHShanghai;
- Booth Theme: Showcase the community, members, and ongoing practices at the event;
- Official content revealed: Access the event handbook and official ETHShanghai social media content;
- Ecosystem engagement: Meet face-to-face with Ethereum developers, researchers, public goods builders, and other community participants;
- Global community connection: Establish new links with digital nomad communities from different countries and cities;
- Post-event content consolidation: Outstanding cases will be further organized into a documentation titled “Collaborative Practices in Digital Nomad Communities,” allowing more people to discover these real-world community experiments.
We hope this is more than just a showcase.
I’d rather it be a meeting between communities.
Different people, starting from different places, come together because of shared values; sharing what they are working on and discussing questions that still have no answers.
More than a decade ago, Ethereum reimaged the possibilities of the internet.
More than a decade later, we might reimagine:
How can people live together?
How can we collaborate?
How can we build a genuine and warm community in a world without boundaries?
This may also be part of the "Renaissance of Ethereum".
