Odaily Planet Daily reports that several former Ethereum Foundation researchers have announced the formation of the nonprofit organization Ethlabs, aimed at advancing Ethereum’s next phase of growth and preparing for institutional adoption. The organization is supported by Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin, as well as two major ETH treasury firms, Bitmine Immersion Technologies and SharpLink.
Ethlabs states that these demands are converging on Ethereum as stablecoins, tokenized real-world assets, funds, and autonomous AI business activities come on-chain. Ethlabs aims to enhance Ethereum’s performance, trusted interoperability, neutrality, resilience, privacy, and security required to scale and absorb this demand.
The organization was co-founded by five former senior researchers from the Ethereum Foundation, who were instrumental in driving several key upgrades to Ethereum over the past decade. The establishment of Ethlabs signifies that major ETH holders and core ecosystem contributors, beyond the Ethereum Foundation, are forming new independent entities to help shape the future direction of Ethereum.
This action occurs against the backdrop of recent criticism and personnel changes at the Ethereum Foundation. Over the past period, some ETH holders and community members have criticized the Foundation for failing to remain sufficiently competitive, while the departure of several senior leaders and key research team members has raised concerns among outsiders about its organizational stability and strategic direction.
