The Ethereum Foundation postpones the Glamsterdam testnet upgrade due to EIP-8037 compatibility issues.

Huo Xing Cai Jing reports that, due to a ChainSecurity report revealing compatibility and security issues with EIP-8037 and certain smart contracts, core developers last week decided to delay the Hoodi testnet upgrade to Glamsterdam. Identified issues include: during transaction execution, remaining gas may increase, potentially causing underflow in certain gas counting logic and triggering rollbacks, or triggering code paths that should not execute, making transactions appear successful when they are not. Additionally, some contracts may underestimate gas usage due to incorrect calculation of gas consumption during calls. ChainSecurity previously stated that 13 real-world cases have been identified and are being responsibly disclosed to affected projects. Toni Wahrstätter noted that further analysis of relevant contracts will be conducted this week to evaluate potential solutions, which may require coordinated efforts from application developers, core developers, auditors, and node operators; in the worst case, protocol specifications may need to be adjusted. He urged application developers and auditors to check contract compatibility with EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 and report any issues promptly.
