In accordance with BeInCrypto, a May 2024 letter from former Ethereum core developer Péter Szilágyi has resurfaced, sparking debate over the Ethereum Foundation’s governance and compensation practices. Szilágyi accused the Foundation of fostering a centralized power structure led by Vitalik Buterin, marginalizing key contributors, and underpaying core developers despite Ethereum’s massive market capitalization. He also criticized the Foundation’s financial practices and alleged that it systematically underpaid those maintaining the network’s infrastructure. The revelations have drawn criticism from the community and Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal, who questioned the Foundation’s support for external projects. Vitalik Buterin responded by praising Nailwal and Polygon’s contributions but did not address the claims in Szilágyi’s letter. The Ethereum Foundation has not commented on the allegations.
