Ethereum news: Developers have removed EIP-8363 from the Hegota network upgrade after industry feedback. The proposal sought to burn more validator rewards as staking grows. A separate process will address security, validator diversity, and the burn formula. Forums and workshops are planned, starting with an issuance forum at Devcon in November.

Ethereum developers have removed EIP-8363 from the upcoming Hegota upgrade after industry feedback raised broader questions. The proposal would gradually burn more validator rewards as Ethereum’s staking participation increases.

Jérôme de Tychey, president of Ethereum France, said developers now want a separate process. He explained that Hegota’s upgrade planning process could not adequately resolve a major issuance policy debate.

The decision follows extensive discussion among developers, researchers, staking providers, and other Ethereum participants. Additionally, EIP-8363 became one of the most discussed proposals on the Ethereum Magicians forum.

Developers Plan Separate Issuance Debate

The proposal would increase the portion of validator rewards burned alongside rising amounts of staked ETH. Under its design, the burn rate could reach 100% near 60.25 million staked ETH.

However, developers identified concerns involving network security, validator diversity, solo staking, industry effects, and the proposed burn formula. Consequently, the authors plan forums and workshops before pursuing another inclusion attempt.

The process begins with an issuance forum at Devcon in November. Moreover, additional workshops could take place during the following months.

The authors also plan discussions around EthCC in April. Hence, the proposal could return through a dedicated governance process.

Ethereum Prepares for Longer-Term Changes

EIP-8363’s withdrawal does not remove its underlying debate over Ethereum’s monetary policy. The authors continue arguing that excessive staking participation could create security and neutrality concerns.

Meanwhile, developers continue preparing Hegota after Glamsterdam. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently described Hegota as a likely final conventional fork.

Ethereum’s market price remains around $2,701.70, according to Coingecko data. ETH has gained 0.77% over 24 hours while remaining slightly lower over seven days.
