BlockBeats report: On March 11, Ethereum ecosystem developers released a proof-of-concept prototype for "native Rollups," enabling Ethereum to validate Layer 2 state transitions directly at the base layer without relying on external verification systems such as zero-knowledge proofs or fraud proofs. The solution introduces an EXECUTE precompile mechanism via EIP-8079, allowing Ethereum's native layer to replay Layer 2 blocks to verify their validity. The participating teams include developers of the Ethrex client, contributors to the Ethereum Foundation, and researchers from L2BEAT.
Developers state that this design enables Layer 2 networks to directly inherit Ethereum’s security properties and protocol upgrades, reducing long-term maintenance costs. The solution is currently in an early exploration phase and has not yet entered production.
