Ethereum developers revealed the name of the 2026 upgrade as 'Hegota' during the final ACDE meeting of the year. The name merges elements from Bogota (execution layer) and Heze (consensus layer). The Ethereum Virtual Machine improvements may be part of the upgrade, which could include Verkle trees to support stateless clients. Major EIPs are expected in February 2026. As a layer 1 blockchain, Ethereum plans to maintain its biannual upgrade schedule through 2026.
