Ethereum core developers have named the 2026 upgrade as Hegota, set for the second half of the year. The upgrade introduces Verkle Trees and a state expiry mechanism to boost scalability and reduce node storage demands. These changes aim to support stateless clients and lower operational costs. The Hegota upgrade will be deployed via a hard fork and marks a key step in Ethereum’s long-term development.
