While making an Ethereum price prediction, analyst Michaël van de Poppe wrote on X that ETH could reach a potential $25,000 target during this cycle.
Poppe tweeted on October 17, 2026, arguing that market participants underestimate Ethereum’s upside. He presented that view alongside his assessment of the asset’s lengthy accumulation period.
Ethereum ETH Price Retreats After Failed Recovery
Notably, during this Ethereum price prediction, ETH price stood at $2,374.67, down 1.4% over the preceding 24 hours. The daily decline followed a sharp selloff near the end of the session, after an earlier attempt to recover.
Before that final decline, ETH had climbed toward $2,438, establishing the session high and the upper resistance reference. The subsequent retreat took Ethereum to around $2,400, marking the first recovery level following the later sell-off.
From there, another rebound reached the $2,420 area, but the recovery failed to hold there. That area became the next recovery reference above the initial level, following the unsuccessful attempt to sustain the rebound.
After the rebound faded, renewed selling pushed Ethereum below the earlier intraday trough, extending the session’s final downward move. The session ended just above $2,370, with no sustained recovery appearing after the sharp decline near the close.
Beyond that session, the performance figures also tracked Ethereum across seven-day, two-week, and monthly periods. The asset lost 3.7% over seven days, while the decline over two weeks reached 9.9% in the reported figures. Meanwhile, the monthly performance reading showed a 1.2% loss for Ethereum over that separate measurement period.
Ethereum Price Prediction Follows Extended Accumulation
Detailing that accumulation, van de Poppe described Ethereum’s consolidation as the longest such period in his assessment. He said the asset had taken more than five years to reach a new all-time high. Across that interval, he characterized Ethereum’s entire price structure as one extended accumulation phase for the asset.
Building on that assessment, Poppe’s Ethereum price prediction also included levels of $15,000, $20,000, and $25,000 per token. Those levels formed part of the analyst’s assessment of a possible move beyond the existing accumulation structure.
However, he made the projected advance conditional on Ethereum breaking out of the range outlined in his comments.
Alongside that price structure, van de Poppe discussed developments in the Ethereum ecosystem as part of his broader assessment. He pointed to institutional adoption as a source of growth, saying the Ethereum ecosystem was becoming much larger.
Within that expanding ecosystem, he also addressed the impact of disruptions affecting Ethereum. Specifically, the analyst said an Ethereum shutdown or a major shock would now carry a substantially greater impact.
Ethereum Price Prediction Accompanies Heavy Long Liquidations
Alongside the Ethereum price prediction, liquidation figures put forced position closures at $70.87 million over the same 24-hour reporting window. According to CoinGlass data, Long positions accounted for $63.08 million of that total. That represented approximately 89% of the reported daily liquidation value.

In comparison, short positions recorded forced closures worth $7.79 million across the same 24-hour period covered by the figures.
During that period, the latest hour saw a heavy concentration of liquidations, totaling $60.80 million in forced closures. Long liquidations reached $58.15 million, while short liquidations totaled $2.64 million during that final hourly reporting window.
Consequently, bullish positions accounted for approximately 95.6% of the hourly liquidation value recorded on both sides of the market.
Across the other reporting windows, four-hour liquidations totaled $61.72 million, according to the figures covering that interval. Separately, the 12-hour reading showed a liquidation total of $67.58 million across the corresponding reporting period.
