Ethereum news: Core developers added EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions) to the 2027 Hegotá network upgrade plan. The proposal was marked as "Scheduled for Inclusion" during the August 27 call. Vitalik Buterin noted that Frames have made progress; they enable users to pay fees in stablecoins instead of ETH, separate transaction steps to allow senders and payers to differ, and let applications cover fees or settle ETH on behalf of users. Frames bundle operations and allow users to set approval rules. The specification is still a draft and not yet available.

ChainCatcher report: Ethereum core developers have included EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions) in the 2027 Hegotá upgrade plan. At the core developers’ call on August 27, the proposal was marked as “Scheduled for Inclusion,” indicating it will be part of the network update rather than merely a candidate. Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum co-founder and one of the ten authors of the proposal, posted on X Sunday night that Frames have made significant progress over the past few months. Frames aim to solve the problem where users hold stablecoins but cannot send transactions due to insufficient ETH. It splits transactions into independent steps—authorization, fee payment, and instruction execution—allowing the sender and fee payer to be different accounts. For example, payment applications can cover fees themselves or collect stablecoins from users and settle ETH bills on their behalf, while the Ethereum network still prices everything in ETH, eliminating the need for users to purchase ETH. Unlike existing wallet solutions that rely on third-party services, Frames enable this functionality through standard Ethereum transaction flows. Additionally, Frames bundle operations that must be executed together, such as authorization and submission in token transfers; if the transaction fails, the authorization is revoked. They also allow accounts to define custom transaction approval rules, enabling key rotation or adoption of quantum-resistant keys without requiring users to migrate funds to a new address. Currently, this specification remains a draft and details may be adjusted before the Hegotá upgrade; Frames are not yet available for user use.
