One ether bought about 2.3% more bitcoin on November 3 than it did on October 29. That put the ETH/BTC ratio near 0.02954, its highest reading in CoinGecko’s seven-day snapshot. From there, ether needed roughly another 1.6% gain against bitcoin to reach 0.03 BTC.

The interesting part is how ether got there. On Monday, ETH gained ground against BTC even as both traded lower in dollars. ONDO, a token traders might look to for a bigger move when ether gains, fell more sharply than either one. The three prices tell a more specific story than a broad altcoin rally: ether showed relative strength, and ONDO had yet to share it.

The ETH/BTC Ratio Shows What the Dollar Prices Missed

Monday’s Bitcoin news focused on the move below $77,000. Yet even though BTC fell, pricing the two assets in bitcoin reveals something the dollar headlines missed. Between the November 1 and November 2 closes, the Bitcoin price moved from $78,248 to $76,677, a decline of about 2.0%. Ether slipped from $2,273 to $2,249, or about 1.1%. An ETH holder ended Monday with less in dollar terms but could exchange that ether for nearly 1% more bitcoin than the day before.

Bitcoin makes a useful benchmark here because it answers a question a dollar chart alone can’t: Did holding ether gain any ground over simply holding BTC? For this stretch, it did. CoinGecko put one ETH at 0.02887 BTC on October 29, 0.02930 on November 2 and roughly 0.02954 intraday on November 3. At 0.03, one bitcoin would buy about 33⅓ ETH, compared with roughly 34.6 ETH at the October 29 reading.

ONDO Put the “ETH Beta” Trade to the Test

Traders use “ETH beta” as shorthand for a token they expect to move more sharply when ether moves. ONDO is an interesting test of that idea because it has a reason to trade on its own news. It gives holders governance rights in the Ondo DAO and Flux Finance. Its price has no built-in obligation to track ETH.

Monday’s closes show just how far the two trades diverged. ONDO fell from $0.40431 to $0.38600, a 4.5% decline against ether’s 1.1% drop. The more revealing comparison is ONDO priced in ETH: one ONDO bought about 3.5% less ether at Monday’s close than it did on Sunday. So while ETH improved its standing against bitcoin, ONDO lost ground against the very asset it was supposed to amplify. One session illustrates the distinction. Establishing a dependable beta would take a longer series of returns.

Two Ratios to Watch as Ether Approaches 0.03 BTC

The first is ETH/BTC. A move from Tuesday’s reading to 0.03 would extend ether’s recent lead and give readers a clear measure of how much more bitcoin one ETH can buy. The second is ONDO/ETH. If ONDO rises in dollars but that ratio keeps falling, ether itself is still delivering the stronger return. If both ratios rise together over several sessions, the case for the ETH-beta trade gets more interesting.

That’s what makes Bitcoin the right starting point for this story. Measuring ether against BTC revealed a gain that dollar prices obscured. Applying the same test to ONDO showed exactly where that strength stopped.
