According to Bloomberg, the wealth of former Google CEO Eric Schmidt may continue to grow.
Bloomberg reports that Schmidt participated in Anthropic’s Series A funding in 2021, investing tens of millions of dollars, and currently holds approximately 1% of the company. According to PitchBook data, Anthropic’s valuation at the time was $461 million.
If Bloomberg’s estimates are accurate, Schmidt’s stake is substantial compared to the approximately 2% held by Anthropic’s co-founder and CEO, Dario Amodei. Anthropic is widely expected to go public before the end of this year, with market valuations for the company reaching as high as $2 trillion. At this valuation, Schmidt’s net worth could increase by as much as $20 billion. Bloomberg currently estimates his net worth at $57.5 billion.
Since stepping down as Google’s CEO in 2011, Schmidt has remained active in technology investing. He allocates capital through multiple entities, including Tomorrow Ventures, Innovation Endeavors Management, and his family office, Hillspire. In addition to Anthropic, his other artificial intelligence investments include Mistral, General Intuition, and Reflection AI.
Schmidt and Anthropic did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
