Equinix just rolled out a new product that essentially wants to be the universal translator for enterprise networking. Called Equinix Fabric One, the managed connectivity service was announced on September 2 during the company’s inaugural Equinix Horizon customer and partner event, targeting what has become one of the thorniest problems in enterprise IT: making everything talk to everything else without requiring a PhD in network engineering.
The service is designed to handle automated routing, cloud connectivity, encryption, resiliency, and failover through a single platform.
What Fabric One actually does
At its core, Equinix Fabric One is what the company calls a “managed any-to-any connectivity service.” It lets enterprises connect their various infrastructure components, whether on-premises, in the cloud, or at the network edge, through one unified layer rather than stitching together dozens of point-to-point connections manually.
The secret sauce is intent-based automation. Instead of configuring individual network paths, enterprises define what they want to achieve (connect this AI workload to that cloud provider with this level of encryption), and the platform figures out the routing.
Fabric One builds on Equinix’s existing interconnection infrastructure, which connects more than 10,500 businesses and approximately 3,000 cloud and IT providers globally.
The service leverages the OpenAPI 3.0 Interconnect specification, which Equinix co-developed with AWS and Google Cloud.
Timeline and availability
Equinix plans to launch a beta version of Fabric One later in 2026, with general availability expected in 2027. The initial rollout will target North America before expanding to other regions.
Back in April 2026, Equinix launched Fabric Intelligence, which served as an earlier step toward more automated interconnection management. Fabric One represents the next logical evolution of that strategy.
The company also used the Horizon event to announce collaborations with NVIDIA and Together AI focused on accelerating enterprise AI inference capabilities.

Equinix claims that eight of the top ten AI model providers and nine of the top ten neocloud providers already use its exchange.
