ENS DAO has launched the ENS Foundation to strengthen governance and legal representation in the decentralized domain space. The foundation will manage the .ens TLD, participate in policy discussions, and safeguard intellectual property. ENS, a critical Ethereum infrastructure serving millions of domains, now has a legal entity to engage with organizations such as ICANN and W3C. This move supports greater liquidity and broader adoption of crypto markets. The foundation will also handle compliance matters, including Countering the Financing of Terrorism (CFT) requirements, to align with global regulatory standards.

Odaily Planet Daily report: ENS DAO has voted to approve the "Next Era of ENS DAO" proposal and completed on-chain execution, officially establishing the ENS Foundation to advance ENS into a new governance phase.

Under the proposal, the ENS Foundation will become a fully operational organization with a full-time executive director, a professional team, and a five-member board responsible for institutionalizing ENS’s work in legal, policy, standards development, and brand protection. ENS states that over the past nearly decade, ENS has evolved into a critical infrastructure within the Ethereum ecosystem, with millions of registered domains integrated into numerous wallets, applications, and Layer 2 networks. However, the DAO itself lacks legal entity status, preventing it from effectively participating in internet naming system governance, signing institutional agreements, hiring full-time staff, protecting trademark rights, or engaging in regulatory discussions. The newly established ENS Foundation aims to fill this gap. The foundation will subsequently be responsible for:

1. Represent ENS in internet standards organizations such as ICANN, IETF, and W3C to promote the recognition and management of the ".ens" top-level domain (TLD);

2. Participate in policy discussions as a legal entity and communicate with regulatory agencies and government departments;

3. Own and protect the ENS trademarks and intellectual property, and combat phishing and impersonation activities;

4. Hire full-time staff to manage ecosystem operations, grant programs, and fund management;

5. Become the official partner between traditional institutions such as registration agencies and standards organizations and the ENS ecosystem.
