BlockBeats news, on October 26, Musk responded on social media to investor Chamath Palihapitiya, stating that SpaceX has completed approximately $40 billion in debt financing to purchase graphics processing units (GPUs), and predicted that over 200 new AI cloud service providers, referred to as "neoclouds," will face massive failures and consolidation due to tightening credit markets.
According to Palihapitiya, neoclouds are disorganized and undercapitalized, while hyperscale cloud providers suffer from bureaucratic decision-making, and he warned that construction delays could lead to significant amounts of “stranded compute” by 2027—hardware that has been purchased but yields returns below the cost of capital, left idle in unfinished data centers.
Musk agreed with the statement, adding that the debt market has "almost entirely cut off financing for companies that lack substantial revenue independent of AI data centers." This means that over 200 neoclouds will face widespread failures and consolidations; some may survive, but not many.
In addition, Musk explicitly stated that SpaceX will not acquire any neoclouds, calling the move “meaningless.”
