ChainThink reports, according to Fortune, an analysis of executive compensation by the AFL-CIO shows that Musk’s total compensation received from Tesla in 2025, calculated at the fair value on the grant date of restricted stock, amounted to approximately $158.3 billion—about 2.52 million times the median annual salary of Tesla employees, which is $57,243.
According to this calculation, Musk earns compensation equivalent to a Tesla employee’s annual salary every 4.23 seconds. The AFL-CIO stated that this compensation package represents a level “unprecedented” since it began tracking CEO pay in 1997.
The AFL-CIO also stated that this compensation is approximately 14 times the total compensation of all other S&P 500 CEOs, whose average pay is about 312 times that of their employees.
Note that $158.3 billion does not represent the actual cash Musk received in that year, but rather the fair value of the Tesla restricted stock granted in 2025;
The value of this stock could ultimately reach up to $1 trillion, provided Tesla meets the corresponding performance requirements.
