IT Home, November 4: Tesla's earnings call may undergo a revamp. Previously, investors compared Tesla's recent third-quarter earnings call with SpaceX's event held the day before, finding the latter more engaging. In response, Elon Musk recently stated on X that Tesla's next earnings call will be conducted in video format and will be "more fun."
The situation began when user @TeslaBoomerMama posted, hoping that Tesla’s next earnings call would be held in video format and that “someone smiling, like Gwynne did yesterday,” would appear on screen. Musk responded: “Next time, it will be.”

Subsequently, X user @farzyness rated the presentation of SpaceX’s earnings call as an "A+" but gave Tesla an "F-". In response, Musk said, "That makes sense; we’ll make our next call more interesting."
SpaceX has set a higher standard.
On October 20, SpaceX held its second earnings call in company history, one day before Tesla’s Q3 earnings call. Unlike Tesla, which continued with its traditional audio-only live stream, SpaceX upgraded to a live video conference, broadcast from its Starlink facility in Bastrop, Texas.
The meeting not only presented financial data but also included rich visual content. It opened with a business review video, and Musk showcased an animated simulation of the Starship upper stage.
SpaceX's financial data is also noteworthy. The company reported revenue of $14.6 billion in the third quarter (IT Home note: approximately RMB 97.587 billion at current exchange rates), a 161% year-over-year increase; net profit amounted to $4.4 billion (approximately RMB 29.41 billion at current exchange rates).
In addition, SpaceX completed its first revenue-generating Starship mission by successfully deploying 26 Starlink V3 satellites. Musk stated that within the next three years, SpaceX will increase Starlink’s bandwidth capacity to 100 times its current level. As of the end of the third quarter, the number of Starlink users reached 13.6 million.
In contrast, Tesla’s earnings call also announced several key updates, including a new record for FSD subscription users and a timeline for expanding its Robotaxi business. If you don’t want to listen to the full audio call, you can review the summary of the Q3 earnings call to learn about all the announcements.
When is Tesla's first video earnings call?
Tesla's next earnings call is expected to take place in late January next year, during which it will report its fourth-quarter and full-year 2026 results. If Musk delivers on his promise, this call will be Tesla's first earnings conference held in video format.
Prior to this, Tesla will also hold its annual shareholder meeting one month from now, on December 3. The shareholder meeting itself is already conducted via live video stream and is typically more interactive and engaging than earnings calls, so Tesla fans may get to see an even more impressive performance at this event first.
Elon Musk has not yet revealed what entertainment elements will be added to Tesla’s future earnings calls. However, SpaceX’s previous use of on-site factory setups, business review videos, and animated demonstrations provides a strong reference model for Tesla.
