Odaily Planet Daily reports that Bitcoin News posted on X that Electrum has released version 4.8.2, introducing multiple security fixes and enhancing the security of the Bitcoin wallet codebase, based on reports from researchers including Bitcoin Red Team, Calle, l0rinc, haoxucu, and m0wer. This version addresses a critical backup issue affecting certain Lightning wallets that use non-deterministic keys and anchored channels; previously, channel backups and full wallet backups for affected wallets might have been missing the keys required to move funds on-chain after a remote force-close request. Users affected by this issue will receive a warning upon launching Electrum and should export a new backup, as old backups cannot correctly restore funds in this scenario. The update also strengthens Lightning HTLC validation, rejects previously accepted malformed xpub/xprv keys, expands the scope of codebase security hardening, and prevents Android QR code scanners from reading screenshots. This is the third security-focused release from Electrum since July, following versions 4.8.0 and 4.8.1.
